Margaret River, WANotes from HappsThe sheer joy of ripe, red grapes, brilliant, bright, burgundy purple plums, currants and blackberries. The Blend: PF Red is a blend of good stuff like Pinot Noir, Merlot, the Cabernets, Franc and Sauvignon and sometimes Shiraz. The really essential ingredient, for the sake of early drinking, is the Pinot Noir.Colour: A full purple reminds one of ecclesiastical robes.Aroma: Plums, currants, red berries.Palate: Fresh and generous berry flavours riffling over the palate, savoury, elegant, intriguing, with a soft finish. Early in its life the aroma of fermentation is part of the whole but the berry flavours soon take over.Life: PF Red will hold its condition in bottle as well as any wine with ‘preservative’. A minimum of five years may be expected. A recent tasting of all our PF Reds since 94 confirmed the point. There is little to be gained however in cellaring it beyond 4 years of age. It is not our aim to produce such a wine, rather, to produce a wine that can be consumed with satisfaction from release.
