(Hunter Valley, NSW)Vintaged under near ideal conditions although reflecting the continuing effect of a drought year, the lifted fruit flavours are excellent. On the palate, the persistent citric lemon fruits together with balanced acid structures show through even on the long aftertaste. Worthy of 8 years in the cellar or more.

Hunter, NSWAnother largely disrespected wine style, Hunter valley Semillon is actually one of Australia’s most intriguing white wines, with a multi layered persona that undergoes amazing changes with age.Young Hunter Semillon is a beautiful, but snappy white dove, crawling back into a hole after 3 years and then returning after 5 as a massive, Chardonnay impersonating, Schizophrenic duck. This wine fits in the first bracket, but the hints of the duck sit just below the surface.Drink this chick with grilled Whiting Fillets.

1 Silver and 2 Bronze medalsBarossa Valley, SAThis is one of the best value Semillons around. Bursting at the seams with fresh, sweet, lemony-juicy smells and flavours, this lightly wooded, tangy, crisp white wine is exceptionally well made, with just enough careful oak maturation to fill out the texture in the mouth, and just enough fruit sweetness to keep you coming back for more.Drink while young and bouncy, or keep for a few years to mellow and develop.
