HOUGHTON ‘QUILLS’ SPARKLING PINOT CHARDONNAY 2004
Thursday, May 22nd, 2008
Western AustraliaA largely unknown member of the Houghton’s family, the Quills is confined mainly to a few restaurants and the export market. Generous, yet backed by a spine of piquant acidity, this is grown ups bubbly at kiddies prices.

QUEEN ADELAIDE BRUT NV
Thursday, May 22nd, 2008
VariousThe Queen Adelaide brand has long been synonymous with the omnipresent Queen Adelaide Chardonnay - one of the most popular white wines in Australian history. But dig a little deeper and you find that the ‘Queen’ range offers seriously good value for money.Take this sparkling for example - expectations are very low for budget bubblies, which often closely resemble alcoholic fruit juice. But this sparkling is admirably drinkable, cutting the sugary sweetness and letting, admittedly simple, fruit flavours shine. The overall impression is of a cheap wine, trying hard not to be cheap. A battler, attempting to shake off the reputation of being cheap, sweet, ‘tart fuel’.
